Throughout history, the shield has been a fundamental tool of physical confrontation. From the Roman scutum to the large, round shields of the Vikings to the later bucklers, there have been countless shapes and structural solutions. Different eras and cultures have provided different answers to the same need: a balance between protection and mobility.
